On the 10th of February 2014 Sam and Sophie joined forces to represent the Surrey team for the regional finals. The pair had competed for their home club Walton in the surrey selection process. They performed exceptionally well to secure their place in the surrey team. Along with their team they set out flying the Surrey colours to compete against 7 other counties in the south east of England.
The day started out well with the team trying their best to secure their place in the national final. Sophie age 15 started the day with a 2 lap race and came an honorable 5th as running is not her event. She then did vertical jump and came 2nd with a massive jump of 58 cm. She then finally competed in shot put where she came into her element and won with a monstrous throw of 12.45. To round off her day the Surrey under 15 girls team won and will be going to Manchester for the national final representing the south east of England.
Sam age 13 kicked off with the shot put where he won the event with his new PB and belter of a throw with 13.65. Sam’s coaching also enabled 2nd place to be a team mate with a throw of 10.38. He then later ran a 1 lap relay where his team came from behind to snatch 3rd place. His team then with no surprise finished in pole position.
