Cheerleading IS a sport by Lucy and Phoebe
The stereotypical cheerleader is an American Barbie with short skirts and pom poms which is really not the case at all. Although there are a lot of American cheerleaders there are also many British squads such as All Stars, Unity, Surrey Starlets, Surrey Twisters and Marshalls.
Some schools even offer cheerleading as a sport or for fun for example as an extracurricular club and others do it to keep healthy. This just shows that cheerleading is not just somewhere to go get fit it is also somewhere to make friends and have fun. Many cheer squads also go to competitions which also gives a opportunity to get closer with your team and also with your rivalry’s. Every cheerleader gets fired up when someone tries to argue that cheerleading is not a sport. Did you know cheerleaders usually burn around 100-400 calories in 2 hours depending on which role you play. Out of 78 people we have interviewed only 18 people said cheerleading isn’t a sport therefore 50 people did think it was a sport. But we are still questioning why those 18 people didn’t think it was a sport. As we questioned these 18 people they said how it wasn’t as hard as dancing and gymnastics whereas cheerleading involves both of these and a whole lot more. When we were researching we also found out that cheerleading and gymnastics were the most popular out of cheerleading, dancing, ballet and gymnastics. |
