Libraries Under Threat? by Benji and Jared
Is technology taken over young readers. We interviewed Mrs Frain our librarian. She said that new technology is effecting in a positive way. It is acting in a positive, because that having a kindle is more accessible because you can carry more books in smaller sized object than having loads of hard heavy books. But some books have a place as a standard paper book-recipes, classics and other non-fiction books.
Mrs Frain says she is encouraging young readers to read on both but mainly wants them to read paper backs at school. She thinks the Kindle is a great device because of its usability and its light weight. She thinks that it is reliable and can be used for many things making it more versatile than a book. She rated the kindle 8/10 as you can do so many things on it. She is encouraging people to read by having a suggestion box, author visits making the library a fun and attractive place and also buying new books every month. She has chess and checkers in the library which before were available every day until they had to go for a week. Then she realised people were reading more so now they are available every two days. We have computers in the library and they are used for homework so the library is now becoming a place for last minute pieces of homework to be done. So technology is developing reading; but in a good way. |
